All members of the American Society of Tax Problem Solvers (ASTPS) must hold a professional license of an Attorney, CPA, or Enrolled Agent. Although, we do offer other memberships for those professionals who do not have a license.
Continuing education is required to maintain membership. Each member must complete 32 hours in every 24 month period. The qualifying Continuing education must be directly related to Tax Resolution. -------------------------------

ASTPS offers several services to our members. Members are introduced to key components we offer to help your business grow, and provide educational services. Professionals in the tax resolution industry have a unique opportunity to be a part of a growing non-profit organization who’s mission is to provide members with resources that will assure their ability to provide taxpayers with competent representation before the IRS.
Educational Seminars
ASTPS sponsored seminars not only provide you with the latest tips, tricks and knowledge to better assist your clients, but also networking experience with other tax professional. All ASTPS sponsored events are approved for continuing education hours for CPAs, Attorneys, and Enrolled Agents.
Certification (CTRS Exam)
Only ASTPS members have the opportunity to sit for the Certified Tax Resolution Specialist (CTRS) exam. The CTRS designation gives you a “leg up” on competition and sets you apart from the rest. Earning this designation informs the public that you have the skills and knowledge to represent them better than anyone else. Two certificates are provided, along with a ceramic coffee mug displaying the unique CTRS logo upon successful completion.
Associate ASTPS Membership
ASTPS now offers an Associate Membership. This is ideal for those who practice in the Tax resolution field yet are not an Enrolled Agent, CPA, or Attorney. An Associate Member receives all of the same benefits as an ASTPS Member, and can also qualify to take the Associate in Tax Resolution exam.
Associate in Tax Resolution (ATR Exam)
Similar to CTRS, the ATR designation is awarded to Associate ASTPS members (those who are not Enrolled Agents, CPAs, or Attorneys), and meet the minimum of continued education hours.
Webinars / Tele-Seminars
There are least 8 Webinars / Tele-Seminars annually that cover technical and marketing/management topics from the industry’s top speakers. If you cannot make a live tele-seminar, it is recorded and posted on the member’s only section of our website for you to listen to at your convenience.

Stay top-of-mind by sending the Taxing Times newsletter to your contacts, clients, referral sources, and prospects. ASTPS provides the content and design. You provide it to your printer/mail house or have us forward it directly to them. Now you can find information on all the tax software that ASTPS uses and recommends. Members are invited to purchase the software at a discounted rate through ASTPS.
Member Discounts
Members and Associate members receive 5% discount on all seminars and products sponsored by ASTPS. ASTPS also works with vendors to offer discounts to our membership. Discounts are offered on software, books, and other technical and marketing/management tools from industry leaders needed to help you grow your practice.
Membership Certificate
Members receive two copies of a Membership Certificate, one to hang in your office, and one to display in your lobby. (Clients and prospective clients look for things like this - it builds credibility).
Member Newsletter
Each quarter, we send you “The ASTPS Messenger” which includes updates of what’s going on in ASTPS, links to important information, available services, and member benefits. Although we may include an occasional article, most of those will be posted on our “Tax Splash” blog. We will include a section on member news, so, if you give a talk, win a big case, learn a new technique, or have an interesting event to share – write it up and send it in. We encourage members to submit articles and we provide a sample press release for local media…great marketing tool!
ASTPS Logo
Active members have the right to display the licensed ASTPS logo in their marketing efforts. Add it to your letterhead, yellow page ad, newspaper ads - anywhere. Your membership in ASTPS and the use of its logo will position your firm ahead of the competition. Prospective clients will see you are a member of ASTPS and know that you are a trained Tax Problem Resolution professional. The ASTPS logo is the “good housekeeping” seal of approval for tax problem resolution.

IRS Practitioner Liaison Program
ASTPS is among professional associations who have been invited to participate in the IRS Practitioner Liaison program. The purpose of the program is to communicate concerns and problems practitioners are facing in dealing with the IRS.
